Invisalign First

Patient Chief Concern
Crowding, Space deficiency for permanent teeth

What learning would you share with other Invisalign providers?
For patients who have difficulty adapting to a rapid palatal expander, Invisalign First clear aligners can be an excellent orthodontic appliance. For patients with deep bite, to prevent relapse, the intrusion of the anterior teeth can be overcorrected to an edge-to-edge relationship, and the molar occlusion can be designed to be strong.

What contributed most to this treatment being successful?
The patient had a significant lack of space for the eruption of the permanent teeth. As the patient was expected to have difficulty adapting to a rapid palatal expander (RPE), it was decided to proceed with treatment using Invisalign First clear aligners. A considerable amount of expansion was performed in both the maxillary and mandibular arches. Since the patient also had a deep bite, bite ramps were placed on the maxillary anterior teeth, and intrusion of the anterior teeth was also planned. To prevent relapse of the deep bite, overcorrection of intruding the anterior teeth was designed, resulting in edge-to-edge incisal relationship at the final aligner stage. At the same time, the posterior teeth were guided into strong occlusal contacts to prevent relapse of deep bite.
